Wild West Memorial
At the entrance of Cody Park, visitors will find the Wild West Memorial. This is near the site of the historic Old Glory Blowout, the first spectator rodeo held in 1882 staged by Buffalo Bill.

The Old Glory Blowout was the precursor to Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. The Wild West memorial pays homage to the people who made it world renowned - the Indians, cowboys, sharpshooters, trick ropers and more.

The centerpiece of the Memorial is the life-sized bronze statue of Buffalo Bill, presented to the City of North Platte by the citizens of Great Britian in appreciation of the thrills and excitement Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show brought to them.

Surrounding the gazebo housing the statue are flags of forty-eight states and many countries of the world, which represent every location visited by Cody and his Wild West Show.
