Rail Fest is an annual celebration of North Platte's spirit and origins as railroad and western heritages come together for three fun-filled days of community events and entertainment. The celebration is held in North Platte's Historic Original Town area in and around Cody Park at the junction of Highways 83 and 30. Rail Fest 2012 has been scheduled for September 14, 15 and 16. Join us in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the creation of Union Pacific Railroad. Make plans now for an exciting weekend of events.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Buses leave Cody Park at regularly Friday, Saturday and Sunday for tours of Bailey Yard. All buses leave from Cody Park Pool Area, and make a stop at the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center before returning to Cody Park. Tours will travel along historic Front Street past the visiting UP Steam Locomotive from Cheyenne Steam Operations and UP Heritage Locomotives (Unit Numbers TBA).

Fun for Railfans and the entire family includes non-stop entertainment; strong man competition; kids games; vendor booths; model train expo; Cemetery Tour; Rail Runners Art Show; food, food and more food; UP Family Day events; tours of NPCC Railroad Technology Center and MUCH, MUCH MORE!

Railroad Exhibits

The main rail line through North Platte is the busiest rail freight corridor in the world, processing more than 150 trains and 10,000 rail cars every 24 hours. How do they manage? Get a close up view at Rail Fest 2012. You won't believe it.

At Cody Park the Union Pacific's Car Department, Maintenance of Way / Engineering Departments and Diesel Shop will each have extensive displays of equipment and tools.
