Day 1 - Friday
12:00 p.m. Arrive in North Platte and enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Canteen Bar and Grille.
2:30 pm Visit America's 20th Century Veterans Memorial, honoring all five branches of the service with a breathtaking bas relief mural and bronze statues.
3:15 pm Board the bus for a tour of Nebraska's largest vineyard the Feather River Vineyards.
4:30 pm After your time among the vines, you'll drive on the back roads through the scenic Platte River Valley, passing the highest point in the county, former home of the Sioux Lookout statue on your way to Fort McPherson National Cemetery. You'll be covering the same ground that all of the major westward migrations crossed.
6:00 pm Return to your hotel to check in and for a quick freshen-up, then head to downtown North Platte (passing the actual restored Sioux Lookout statue, now at home on the grounds of the Lincoln County Courthouse) for dinner at the Depot Restaurant.
8:00 pm Remember all of that delicious wine that you heard about earlier? Now you will enjoy a wine tasting at the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center, all while overlooking the massive Union Pacific Bailey Yard.
Day 2
8:00 am Enjoy a delicious free breakfast buffet at your hotel
9:30 am Board your bus for a trip to the small town of Hershey to tour the Stones and Bones Gallery and Emporium.While there, you will be treated to a flint-knapping demonstration and details of the rich Native American history of the area.
11:00 am Leave North Platte for Dancing Leaf Cultural Learning Center in Wellfleet 20 miles south of North Platte. Here you'll experience more Native American history, as well as learn about the important archeological finds in the area and experience some of central Nebraska's most beautiful scenery. 1:30 pm Board the bus for the return trip to North Platte, where you'll stop at the Fort Cody Trading Post to view Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in Miniature. This 20,000-piece hand-carved and hand-painted collection is animated each half-hour. You'll enjoy other displays in their Old West Museum, and have a chance to pick up souvenirs.
2:30 pm Indulge your artistic cravings with a stop at the Art and Gift Gallery in historic downtown North Platte. The five galleries feature the work of a local co-op of artists.
4:00 pm Now it's time to visit the real thing - the Buffalo Bill State Historical Park. Cody built up his 4,000 acre ranch when his Wild West Show was in it's heyday, touring the world. Today the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has restored the magnificent Victorian mansion, barn, outbuildings and 25 acres of the grounds.
5:00 pm You'll board your bus for the quick drive around the corner to the Lincoln County Historical Museum. Here you'll hear the heartwarming story of the North Platte World War II Canteen, then tour the Western Heritage Village and enjoy a "Ride with the Wild Bunch". Your evening includes a delicious BBQ meal, accompanied by a Wild West re-enactors shootout and Cowboy entertainment.
7:30 pm You've earned some rest and relaxation at your hotel.
Day 3
8:00 am After a refreshing night at your hotel, enjoy a delicious free breakfast buffet, and check out.
9:30 am Board your bus for North Platte's Historic Cody Park. At the entrance, you'll see a magnificent life-sized statue of Buffalo Bill Cody that was donated to the citizens of North Platte by Cody's adoring fans in Great Britain. Surrounding the statue are flags from all the states and countries his Wild West show toured, and plaques honoring the groups of people who made the show successful.
10:15 am A brief drive through Cody Park will take you past the pond. Now home to a wide range of wildlife and birds, in 1882, it was a racing pavilion, and the home of the very first performance of what would later become the Wild West Show.
10:30 am You'll arrive at the Cody Park Railroad Museum, the home of the only 3900 series Challenger Steam Locomotive on public display. A tour guide will meet you to explain the exhibit.
11:30 am North Platte has one final railroad exhibit. This time the historic Baldwin #480 Locomotive in Memorial Park.
